Astronautical Engineering is a branch of engineering that aims to provide economic, scientific, and technological services and products through space systems operating around the Earth and beyond. Astronautical engineers work in civil and military organizations on the design, development, analysis, and operation of manned and unmanned spacecraft, launch vehicles, mission trajectories, and space systems. They also take part in the realization of scientific and technological experiments carried out on space vehicles.
The Department of Astronautical Engineering was established in 1983 simultaneously with the Faculty of Aeronautics and Astronautics. The department currently has 9 Professors, 3 Associate Professors, 2 Assistant Professors, 1 Lecturer Dr., 1 Lecturer, 1 Research Assistant Dr., and 12 Research Assistants. Academic staff members regularly take part as visiting scholars and lecturers at leading universities around the world.
The mission of the department is to educate modern graduates who can successfully take part in production, application, and R&D activities in industry and research institutions at national and international levels; who have a creative mindset, strong social qualities, environmental awareness, and the ability for lifelong self-development. The department also aims to conduct scientific and applied research that contributes to knowledge production at national and international levels, to publish this research, and to put it into practice. Each year, 50+2 students are admitted to the department through ÖSYM.

International Equivalence
The Astronautical Engineering Undergraduate Program is accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission (EAC) of ABET. This accreditation demonstrates that the program meets internationally recognized quality standards for engineering education.
International Relations
Our students can spend one year of their education at a European university of their choice within the scope of the European Union's ERASMUS program. Many of our students have benefited from this program since its implementation began in 2005. The number of students applying to benefit from the program has increased steadily over the years. The countries and universities with which agreements have been made so far are: United Kingdom (The University of Glasgow), Sweden (KTH Royal Institute of Technology), Italy (Politecnico di Torino, Politecnico di Milano, University of Naples), the Netherlands (Delft University of Technology), and Germany (RWTH Aachen University).
