Purpose of the Laboratory

Cankut Bagana Innovation Laboratory (CBILAB) is a thematic innovation laboratory within Istanbul Technical University Faculty of Aeronautics and Astronautics. It was established to provide students with an environment where they can develop project ideas, collaborate with students from different disciplines, and take part in design, production, and prototyping processes. The laboratory supports teamwork, project development, entrepreneurship, creative problem solving, and hands-on engineering skills.

Scope of the Laboratory

CBILAB aims to improve students’ technical and creative skills, especially in processes extending from an initial idea to a working prototype. Within the laboratory environment, students can carry out applied work in areas such as basic software development, mechanical design, electronics, three-dimensional modeling, prototyping, and product development. In this respect, CBILAB functions not only as a workspace, but also as an innovation and production ecosystem where students can transform engineering knowledge into real projects.

Fields of Activity

The activities of the laboratory focus on the following areas:

  • Student-oriented project development and prototyping activities
  • Three-dimensional design, modeling, and manufacturing applications
  • Electronics, mechanical, and software-based introductory projects
  • Teamwork and interdisciplinary engineering applications
  • Support for creative problem solving and innovation culture
  • Entrepreneurship, product development, and business model development processes
  • Training, workshops, and seminars aimed at improving students’ technical skills

Infrastructure and Facilities

CBILAB provides a laboratory environment that supports prototyping, design, and applied engineering activities, enabling students to transform their ideas into tangible outputs. In line with its founding vision, the laboratory aims to help students become familiar with current technologies and develop more advanced projects using these technologies.

  • Three-dimensional design and prototyping activities
  • Applications involving 3D printers and 3D scanners
  • Mechanical design and product development processes
  • Electronics and software-based student projects
  • Applied training, workshop, and project development activities

Student-Oriented Innovation Approach

The main approach of CBILAB is to encourage students not only to acquire theoretical knowledge, but also to use this knowledge in project development, prototype production, and solving real-world problems. The laboratory contributes to bringing together students who have project ideas with teammates from different fields, helping them improve their technical skills and transform their ideas into applicable projects.

Establishment and Support

CBILAB was established within Istanbul Technical University in 2015. The laboratory was founded with the support of Cankut Bagana, the founder of Onur Air, and was named after him in recognition of this support. During its establishment, the main goal was to create an innovative environment where students could improve their project development and entrepreneurship skills.
